  • Cordless Drills - What do you get for the money?

    Most of well known tool manufacturers like DeWalt, Makita or Milwaukee produce their tools in different price range. You cant go wrong with Makita cordless drill, but which one to choose? The one for 110 bucks or should you pay 300 for premium model? What are the differences between reasonably priced and best cordless drill on the market? Here we list some differences that vary between price ranges.

    Firstly it should be noted, when comparing cordless drills, that most manufacturers sell their tools in different packages. Cordless drill may be sold as "bare tool" without batteries or it my come with two batteries and a plastic case. This should be always taken into consideration in order to avoid apples to oranges comparison, as the prices may vary significantly.

    We compare 3 different Makita drills all are cordless 18 volts with hammer option but in different price ranges.

    Makita XPH102 100$ - 150$ price range

    Makita XPH06 250$ - 300$ price range

    Makita XPH07TB LXT 350$ - 400$ price range

    As you can see we intentionally avoided to list exact prices as they may vary form store to store and there are occasional discounts.

    1. Motor
    Makita XPH06 and XPH07TB LXT unlike Makita XPH102 feature brushless motor. Main advantages of brushless motor are longevity and lower power consumption which means cordless drill with a brushless motor will last longer and drill more holes with single charge.
    Additionally Makita XPH07TB LXT, which is the best cordless drill that Makita produces, delivers 1,090 in.lbs. of Max Torque compared to XPH06 which delivers 530 in.lbs. of Max Torque.

    2. Gears and gear housing
    When buying a cordless drill one of the most important feature to look after is gears material. Makita produces very best tools, so all three drills feature all metal gears. Additionally Makita XPH07TB LXT features metal gear housing.

    3. Batteries
    Today all quality cordless drills have Li-Ion batteries, however with price range increases battery capacity Makita XPH102 comes with 3.0 Ah battery, Makita XPH06 with two 3.0 Ah batteries and Makita XPH07TB LXT with two 5.0 Ah batteries! Makita XPH06 and Makita XPH07TB LXT feature 3 stage L.E.D. gauge that indicates battery charge level. Makita XPH07TB LXT has additional gauge that indicates battery charge level on the battery itself.
